Piping Rock Onion Essential Oil

The familiar onion, also known as common onion or bulb onion, has been cultivated and enjoyed as a vegetable around the world for thousands of years. This perennial bulbous plant features an unassuming fan of blue-green hollow leaves that shoot from the bulb. While the bulb has a long history in culinary applications, it’s the seeds of the onion that has gained attention in the world of aromatherapy.

History of Onion

Allium cepa has a rich history that spans cultures, practices and cuisines. By the time it was first described by Swedish botanist Carolus Linnaeus in his 1753 work Species Planranum, this plant had already seen thousands of years of use. In fact, evidence of onion remains has been found in the ruins of ancient Bronze Age settlements dating back to 5000 B.C.!
